PWCI's Estimating Department: Better. Faster. Stronger.
May, 2009
PWCI's Estimating Department is making upgrades! The Estimating Department is in the process of replacing Bidtek, the "old workhorse" estimating system that PWCI has been using since 1994. After much review and research of various estimating software systems, two new designated programs will be running the show. Introducing Prime Bid and MC2 (pronounced M-C squared)! Together, both of these programs will execute the same tasks as Bidtek (yes, it takes two software systems to do what the old Bidtek could do), but faster and with more efficiency. MC2 will be utilized for takeoffs and Prime Bid will be used for bid day to select and scope subcontractor bids. Additionally, estimating has moved from using the old digitizer boards and pens to "On Screen Takeoffs." This software system enables estimating to compile takeoffs on screen. Together, these systems have cut costs in half for hard copies of plans, specifications, and addendums, not to mention it is great for the environment too. These new programs have significantly reduced the amount of paper being used.
Todd Peterson, Chief Estimator says, "If it appears that I will miss Bidtek, it is true. Change is not easy. However, the capabilities of the three software systems have distinct advantages that will make us more competitive in the tightening construction markets. This is a good thing In fact, we started using the On Screen Takeoffs about nine months ago, as well as utilizing MC2. On Screen Takeoffs increased our productivity and cut down our day to day costs. I anticipate that once we implement Prime Bid, we will have similar gains as well."
